Stewardship
Non-Acidic
Graphite is a non-toxic, non-polluting stable carbon based mineral. It is quarried from soft quartz-based sands, and unlike many hard rock mining operations, does not release toxic acids into the environment.
Eagle Graphite’s high-grade raw material is processed with mild chemicals such as pine oil. The slightly alkaline sand by-products have no detrimental environmental impact.
Byproduct reused
The only byproducts created during processing of the graphitic feed material are sand and aggregate, which are marketed to regional golf courses and the construction industry. This innovative approach minimizes our long-term environmental footprint.
Low Emissions
Power for the processing plant is derived from a nearby hydroelectric dam, providing clean renewable energy. By comparison, many mining operations rely entirely on fossil fuels.
Water Recycling
Water used in the processing is stored in a specially built recirculation pond, and then used again, reducing overall water consumption. There is zero spillage of any effluent into local water systems.
All areas of the mine site are subject to strict British Columbia government environmental and safety standards. This includes a reclamation fund for the restoration of wilderness areas to their natural state.
